We've had our wedge wire drainage independently slip tested, and the results are worth sharing. If you specify drainage for showers, bathrooms, pool surrounds or any wet area, slip resistance is part of the brief. Here's what the testing covered and what the rating means for your projects.
The test
Testing was carried out by QED Environmental Services, an independent testing laboratory, in July 2026. It followed AS 4586:2013¹, the Australian Standard for slip resistance classification of new pedestrian surface materials.
QED used the wet pendulum method, which is the recognised way to measure how a surface performs when it's wet. Five samples of our 92mm electro polished wedge wire drain were tested at the QED Sydney lab.

What a P3 rating means
The wet pendulum test uses two rubber sliders. Each one stands in for a different way people move across a surface.
Slider 55 represents bare feet, which is the relevant measure for wet barefoot areas. Under Slider 55, our wedge wire drainage returned a P3 classification. That sits in the higher band of the AS 4586 scale for barefoot areas, so it's a strong slip resistance result for the conditions these drains are usually installed in: showers, bathrooms, ensuites and pool surrounds.
The certificate also reports a second result under Slider 96, which represents footwear in external areas. Both figures are in the full report, which we're happy to provide to specifiers on request.
What this means for your project
Slip resistance is often a tick-box on wet area specifications, and now there's documented, independent evidence to back the choice. You can put a recognised AS 4586 classification on file, tested to the current standard by an independent lab.
Our wedge wire grate drainage is manufactured in Australia in stainless steel and the tested electro polished profile gives you a slip result you can hand straight to a certifier or client.
